Charlie Puth Anaheim Concert reviews
It was ok
This is the fourth time I've seen Charlie. The first time being on his first tour when his tickets were $25 at a small venue all the way up to opening for Shawn Mendes at a large venue. I took into account this was his first show in about 3.5 years so I get it, takes a little time to get back into the swing with a live crowd. With all of that being said, I was disappointed. Charlie was absolutely forcing smiles and faking enjoying himself. I understand he doesn't do choreographed routines on stage which is fine of course but Sunday night his movements on stage were awkward and again, forced. The new album "Charlie" is ok but not great and since most of the songs he did were from his new album coupled with his clearly not enjoying performing made the experience mediocre at best. Oddly, he made a brief mention of fame and being discovered as an artist equating it to a "lottery ticket" and then immediately covered a Justin Bieber song. What was the message? Justin was just lucky with his lottery ticket? Justin was lucky and I'm here stuck with you guys at some small venue? Doesn't matter what the intent of the message was it was in poor form. Not sure what the point was but it appeared to be childish and bitter. Speaking of his lottery ticket statement, let's be honest. A random chance occurrence with a series of well aligned connections and events is what gave Charlie the opportunity to write and sing "See You Again" -that song and Fast and Furious was his lottery ticket. You know what? He barely gave the song justice when he played it as his closing song. It certainly felt like he was playing it because he had to and knew fans would be pissed if he didn't but again it was forced and felt more like he wanted to run away from his "lottery ticket" song. This is coming from a true Charlie fan. I hope it gets better as the tour progresses. Still love Charlie, not mad, just disappointed. I hope he's ok.
